At the July 29 meeting, resident Joseph Curtner asked Columbia Borough to consider striping a white edge line on Ironville Pike after repeated damage to his mailbox and others nearby. Curtner said his mailbox has been hit seven times and destroyed three times in the past several years and that adding a white shoulder line might visually narrow the lane and reduce nighttime encroachments. Curtner described local road conditions, noting that on other nearby roads the right-edge stripe exists and appears to keep drivers more centered. He asked whether the borough could stripe Ironville Pike approximately one or two feet from the curb while maintaining a 10-foot travel width. Borough staff said Ironville Pike is not a state route in the relevant segment and that they would bring the request to the next public works meeting for consideration. Council did not commit to a timeline or funding; staff said they would examine responsibility for striping and whether in-house crews or contractors would perform the work. No formal motion was made; the borough’s public works department will review feasibility and report back to council.
