City planning staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission July 28 that construction has started on the Sunbury Parkway project and that the department received a $50,000 grant to begin a zoning‑code update that must be used by June next year.
Alex Blankenship, planning staff, briefed commissioners on development activity: 33 zoning certificates in the past month, 23 of them for new-build homes; a Northport Residential Hotel project that includes a 154‑unit multifamily building; and 29 occupancy permits tied to Pulte developments in Magnolia, Price Ponds and Eagle Creek. Blankenship said the department will present an analysis of impact fees and a recommended annual inflation adjustment at a future meeting.
Blankenship also demonstrated a project map the department is compiling that shows approved projects in development, public facilities, schools and parks. He said staff will share the map link with commissioners and intends to expand it into the city’s GIS so commissioners can better track project locations and stages. The planning office will return with the impact‑fee inflationary adjustment recommendation next month for the commission’s review.
