Board proclaims August Child Support Awareness Month; county office reports above‑average collections and cost effectiveness

Wright County commissioners on Tuesday adopted a proclamation designating August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month and heard a presentation from Karen Popkin, supervisor of child support enforcement. Popkin told the board that Wright County exceeds state averages across the five measures used to evaluate county child‑support programs. She said county collection performance was 79 percent compared with a 73 percent statewide average and that Wright County’s cost effectiveness—the dollars collected per dollar spent—was $5.99 versus a state average of $2.65. Popkin also told the board the unit has 15 staff with a combined 162 years of service to Wright County. Commissioners thanked staff for “above‑average” performance and moved to adopt the proclamation by resolution; the vote was unanimous.
