A stylist in the Village of West Clay described offering custom wigs, a variety of hair textures and full-service salon treatments for women experiencing hair loss related to cancer treatment.
The stylist (Speaker 2) said she has worked in the Village of West Clay for four and a half years and has been doing hair for almost 20 years. "I wanted to help her. I took classes, and she was one of the first wigs that I made, and I kinda just fell into that journey of making wigs for women with hair loss," Speaker 2 said, describing how she began making wigs after a colleague received a cancer diagnosis.
The stylist said she sources hair from overseas to provide a variety of textures and displays those options on the salon wall so clients can choose a texture that matches their natural hair. "So when my clients come in, we kind of go through a process of choosing first off what is your hair texture," Speaker 2 said. She added that the salon aims to keep the experience like a regular salon visit rather than a medical setting. "I want them to come to a warm, friendly environment that is welcoming. I want them to feel like they're still coming to a hair salon instead of like a doctor's office or a medical center for wigs and all that. I want them to feel like themselves," she said.
The stylist also described on-site treatments and a full-service approach: stylists are trained to give scalp and steam treatments, and a specialist named Camille performs an eye treatment while clients recline at the shampoo bowl. An event host (Speaker 1) praised the offering, saying, "What an incredible thing" and, later, "It just makes our community that much more special. So thanks for filling a gap and a niche and for helping women here."
