Hearing officer allows 48-inch front-yard fence for Hood property on corner lot

The hearing officer approved July 28 a variance permitting a 48-inch metal fence in the front yard of David Hood's corner lot. Hood told the hearing the taller fence would keep grandchildren and pets in the yard and would better match the two‑story home's architecture on the small lot; he also said two other wrought-iron fences of similar height exist on the block.
Planning staff noted that corner lots have two front-yard setbacks and said the proposed fence would remain set back from the sidewalk and preserve sight lines at the alley. "So planning staff is supportive of this variance request," Angie said and recommended approval along with adoption of the findings of fact. The hearing officer approved the petition and adopted the findings.
The applicant must still obtain required building or fence permits and comply with any vision clearance or sidewalk set‑back requirements during installation.
