The Dubuque City Council on July 21 adopted plans, specifications, form of contract and an estimated cost of $270,100 for the 2025 maintenance dredging project at Dubuque Marina.
Assistant city engineer Mike (presenting) said the project will dredge an open waterway from the Piasta Channel to the marina’s transient docks to provide safe access for transient vessels and larger craft and to improve water flow and circulation to reduce future sedimentation. The council previously authorized the city to apply for a Boating Infrastructure Grant (Tier 1) from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources; staff said the city received a notice of award in July 2024.
Staff also reported a funding agreement with Dubuque Marina requires the marina to provide $100,000 in local matching funds to complete the dredging work. The project will provide improved access for vessels 26 feet and larger and support fueling, pump‑out and other services for transient boaters.
No public comments were received at the hearing. The council moved to receive and file the report and adopted the resolution; the final roll call vote was 7‑0.
Next steps include bidding, contract award, and construction work per the adopted plans and specifications. City staff recommended council approval and the project will proceed to procurement under the adopted contract documents.
