Lewiston schools report summer outreach, student resource center activity and housing-navigation referrals

Lewiston Public Schools presented summer outreach schedules, family literacy workshops and a housing navigation partnership that has generated 60 student referrals and 22 families receiving or actively working with support.
Jenny Darigan, speaking for Lewiston Public Schools, summarized the districtsummer outreach and Student Resource Center activity.
Darigan said outreach events have run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 24 through August 7, with a staffed tent at Kennedy Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tent serves lunches and provides family engagement, registration assistance and referrals to district services.
The district also staffed presence at community movie nights run by the police department and hosted family summer literacy workshops in July (Tuesday workshops, 1–3 p.m.). Darigan said the districtresource staff make outreach calls to update housing status and support transitions back to school.
Darigan described the districtCommunity Concepts housing-navigation partnership, saying Lewiston Public Schools sent 60 student referrals since February to a Community Concepts housing navigator, 22 students/families have received direct support, and 22 families are currently working with the navigator toward housing stability. The project is supported by a grant intended to provide housing navigation and short-term support such as utility assistance.
She also noted the districtsponsored Camp Agassiz sessions this summer for 15 students, and reminded the committee of the annual backpack event on Aug. 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Longley, where staff will distribute backpacks and support registration and school-calendar questions.
Darigan said materials and photos from summer outreach were posted on the district website and encouraged families to use posted contacts for services and registration assistance.
