A Faircom update to the Grundy County Finance Committee covered tax receipts tied to the Dresden nuclear station, timing for the next long-term agreement negotiations, and Constellation’s local activity.
Ann, reporting from Faircom, explained that Faircom is a statewide group of taxing districts that monitors legislation and advocacy for power-plant host communities. She said Dresden Station’s assessed tax amount is “just over $26,000,000,” and Grundy County’s current share from that assessment is about $3,860,000. Ann said the county expects to begin negotiations next year on a new long-term agreement with Dresden/Constellation; the current agreement runs about five years and will expire next year.
Ann also relayed information from Constellation representatives: Constellation has entered into long-term power agreements (noted as 20-year agreements) and is buying land in LaSalle County tied to data-center demand. A county representative who met with Constellation said Plant 1 (reactor 1) is being planned for decommissioning with trucks and construction activity to follow, while reactors 2 and 3 remain in operation. Committee members were urged to watch state legislation that could affect power-plant communities and to expect further updates as negotiations near.
The committee had no formal vote on the Faircom update; Ann said she would keep board members informed as negotiations and related activity proceed.
