On a related matter, staff proposed and the committee accepted target language for the cultural enrichment grant category: a target cap of $5,000 per award with committee discretion to consider larger requests for demonstrated need or exceptional circumstances. "The new language would be...we are targeting grant amounts to not exceed $5,000, but the committee is open to considering requests above that amount should there be unique circumstances or clear demonstration of need," a staff member summarized.
Next steps: staff will continue discussions with city leadership and the auditor's office on legal comfort and public perception, maintain nonprofit applicant requirements for event/festival grants for the current cycle, and implement the $5,000 cultural‑grant target with discretion for exceptions. No formal ordinance or statutory change was adopted at the meeting.
