City staff updates board on City Hall remediation and Freeman House lease progress

Urban Design staff reported remediation work at City Hall is nearly complete and that procurement, finance and legal are finalizing an agreement for the Freeman House with a contractors association; timing remains under review.
At the July 24 meeting the City of Punta Gorda Urban Design office updated the Historic Preservation Advisory Board on two maintenance and preservation items.
City Hall remediation: senior project manager Daniel Berhouse said the remediation contractor had completed wall work at City Hall and that air‑conditioning duct cleaning and scrubbing were scheduled to begin the same day; once those tasks finish the remediation work will be complete. Parks staff and Urban Design staff are collaborating on removing dead landscaping and exploring new plantings; a refurbished plaque behind the flag will be reinstalled.
Freeman House lease: staff reported procurement, finance and legal are working on an agreement with the Central Business District Improvement Association (CDBIA) for use of the Freeman House; the arrangement remains in process. Board member Theresa Duskin asked whether procurement needed to be involved; staff said legal and procurement are coordinating to ensure a solid, lawful agreement. Staff said the expectation is to provide an update next month.
