Planning Commission elects Robert Seifert chair, James Wilton vice chair

The Planning Commission on July 28, 2025, elected Planning Commissioner Robert Seifert as chair and Planning Commissioner James Wilton as vice chair during a meeting at the Community Room, 120 Lashley Court.

The nominations were moved and seconded on the floor; the commission then confirmed Seifert as chair and Wilton as vice chair by voice vote. The election followed a staff overview of the officers’ responsibilities, including procedural duties, recordkeeping and limits on consecutive service.

Alexandra Friend, the board recorder, summarized the roles and procedural expectations for the chair and vice chair. She told commissioners the chair presides over meetings according to the agenda, enforces decorum and public-comment procedures, and must relinquish the gavel before making or seconding motions. The vice chair serves in the chair’s absence and, like the chair, votes on motions unless a conflict of interest exists. Friend said officers may serve a maximum of three consecutive years if reelected and that the chair (or vice chair acting as chair) signs approved minutes.

Commissioners conducted the election after staff confirmed a quorum and reviewed public-comment rules and quasi-judicial hearing procedures. The handout referenced by staff also covered the Sunshine Law and public-records obligations; staff advised commissioners to avoid sidebar conversations that could constitute a Sunshine Law violation.

No formal dissent or separate motions altering the election were recorded. With the election complete, the commission proceeded to its other agenda items.

The commission meets next on Aug. 25, 2025, according to staff announcements at the close of the session.
