At the July 14 meeting, the Starr County sheriff's office reported total jail revenue for June 2025 of $225,406 and described shifts in regional inmate housing that reduced expected revenue compared with the prior year. The sheriff's report listed contributions including medical services and housing fees; the office said the average daily federal inmate count was 97 and average Hidalgo County inmates were 15. On July 1, the reported population figures were 109 federal, 47 Hidalgo and 75 Starr County inmates for a combined total of 231 inmates. The office said the year-over-year revenue difference was negative $192,806 compared with the same time last year. Sheriff's staff explained Hidalgo County now operates its own jail and has reduced placements in Starr County; Webb County has been asked to consider sending inmates and was negotiating a similar contract. The sheriff's office said the jail has roughly 300–325 beds and could accommodate about 50–80 additional inmates if needed. Officials warned the change in placements will affect the county budget for the year and said they are tracking population and contract discussions with neighboring counties.
