The HEB ISD Board of Trustees approved a revision to local policy DNA concerning the performance appraisal and evaluation of teachers. Human-resources staff and presenters said the changes remove references to less-than-annual appraisals to align with data-validation and annual appraisal requirements for the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). The revision also changes the weighting when a teacher requests a second appraisal from an approved outside appraiser: the first appraisal and the second appraisal will each carry a 50% weight. Staff said the prior weighting had been 60/40 and that a 50/50 weighting gives the second appraisal more momentum when results differ. Board action: The board moved and seconded approval of the policy revisions and the motion passed. (Motion recorded as: approve the revisions as submitted.) Discussion versus decision: Staff framed the policy change as an alignment step with TIA data-validation and no amendments to the proposed language were offered by board members in the meeting audio.
