Members of the Racine Unified School District Board Legislative Committee agreed on July 28 to schedule a fall legislative meeting and to explore inviting state legislators to tour newly completed district buildings, with staff to coordinate dates and logistics.
The committee chair proposed showcasing recent construction under the district's facility master plan as a way to attract legislative interest. "Showing off the products of the facility master plan would be very helpful and probably attract interest and get the legislators to come," the committee chair said. He said he would "work with Mr. Myers and Mr. Goreski to see what we can do, which buildings to feature."
Committee members discussed options ranging from a single-building presentation to a bus tour of multiple sites. One member noted the difficulty of scheduling in August, especially with school starting, and suggested possibly skipping the committee's usual August meeting. The committee asked staff to send an email to collect members' availability for a future date and to coordinate with facilities staff on tour planning.
No formal vote was taken on the tour plan or meeting date; the item will return once staff proposes specific dates and an agenda. The committee also noted that the district delayed scheduling earlier because the state budget remained uncertain; with budget clarity, members said now is an appropriate time to invite legislators to see completed projects.
