City project staff told the Navasota City Council on Monday that several public-works projects are progressing โ a pump for Well No. 8 was delivered, the water tower is about 30% complete, and cement stabilization and street maintenance work has begun on several local streets โ and that crews are installing a concrete basketball court and picnic area at Miller Park. Project Manager Matthew Julien described progress: "Last week, the pump for Well Number 8 was delivered... Progress on the water tower is still going strong... They are about 30% complete with the construction of it." He added crews had completed cement stabilization on Tyler, Turner, Burton and Woodrow Jackson streets and begun on South Peoples and West Virginia. Staff said public-works crews have been clearing Miller Park and plan a basketball court similar to Cleveland Park; if weather cooperates, concrete could be poured by the end of the next week. To ensure the park is maintained like other city parks, staff asked the council to amend the existing lawn-care services contract with JC Sam Burton Construction Services to include Miller Park for the remainder of the contract period and future contracts. Councilman Harris moved to add Miller Park to the lawn-care contract; Councilman Gessner seconded. Council approved the amendment by voice vote. Staff said the lawn contractor visits 47 times per year under the contract and that budgeted funds remain to cover the additional mowing for the current year.
