Councilman Barry Tyler announced that the Delta Institute is working with the Hammond Parks Department to conduct a forestry analysis in the Third District and will host a small community working-group meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hammond Public Library.
Tyler said the group seeks residents interested in forestry and environmental issues to assist with analysis of areas that may be hotter because of lower tree canopy and to help produce a plan for planting and maintenance. "If you are interested in attending and being part of that conversation, please reach out to me and we can get you on the invitation," Tyler said. He described the meeting as an initial, small working group that would be followed by larger public meetings.
The announcement was presented as community outreach and planning; no formal council action was taken at the meeting.
