The Hammond City Council voted 8-0 July 28 to create a new city fund to receive and distribute Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) monies awarded to the Hammond Police Department.
Councilwoman Venez moved final passage of Ordinance 25-15, which establishes fund number 2492 for the JAG program; the motion was seconded by Councilman Alexander Spatelli. Councilwoman Venez told the council: “This, simply establishes new fund for the receipt and the distribution of the funds from the, grant that the, police department received in the amount of $36,267.66.”
Clerk Golic recorded a roll call showing eight votes in favor and one absence; the ordinance carried. Council discussion clarified that the ordinance creates the line item and does not itself move additional money beyond the grant award.
Next steps: the police department will use the established fund to receive and distribute grant proceeds consistent with grant conditions and city procedures; no further appropriation details were reported at the meeting.
