HAYSVILLE — The Haysville Planning Commission recommended vacation of a portion of a platted lift-station easement at 7474 South Seneca Street after staff said a homeowner’s garage encroaches about 30 feet into the recorded easement.
Staff told the commission the parcel, developed as single-family residential, lies in rural Sedgwick County within Haysville’s area of influence and that permitting at the time the garage was built likely went through the county. A staff packet letter from the public works director, referenced in the hearing, explains that the vacation is part of negotiations to obtain new permanent easements on the property for the Phase 1 Southwest Interceptor project currently under design and a future Phase 2 project.
Staff said vacating this portion of the platted easement would leave approximately two feet of clearance between the garage and the future and current easements. No public comment was offered, and the commission moved to recommend approval. Two commissioners abstained from the vote; the motion otherwise carried.
Staff advised that records do not clearly show how the encroachment occurred, and that county permitting practices in the 1990s likely explain the lack of city documentation. The recommendation directs public-works coordination with the property owner and survey work to resolve the easement alignment before construction of interceptor projects proceeds.
