On June 24 the Merrillville Town Council approved resolution 25-24, a preliminary resolution declaring an Economic Revitalization Area and preliminarily granting a tax abatement for Millennium Drywall's proposed 11,000-square-foot warehouse and office in the Ameriplex at the Crossroads.
Councilman Michael Pettit presented the petitioner, Alan Tarpley, who told the council the project would be an 11,000-square-foot warehouse/office at 607 East 90 Eighth Avenue in Ameriplex at the Crossroads. Pettit said the project represents a $2,500,000 investment, would create approximately 50 temporary construction jobs (union), and would sustain 22 full-time jobs (retain 12, create 10), with an estimated annual payroll of about $2,500,000. The economic development committee and the redevelopment commission recommended the preliminary resolution.
The council voted in favor by voice vote; the matter will proceed through the statutory advertisement step before a final declaratory resolution and abatement schedule return to the council. Staff said this action is the preliminary step; developers and staff will continue coordination on site plans and incentives.
