Council rebudgets $45,000 in unspent CDBG funds for Northeast Playground refresh

The Lebanon City Council voted to amend the FY2023 annual action plan to rebudget $45,000 in unspent Community Development Block Grant funds for public facilities and recreational improvements at Northeast Park. Mayor Sherry Alcopello told the council the money would be used to “do a complete refresh of the playground at Northeast Park,” describing work to replace wood timbers with plastic borders, excavate old mulch, add a 4‑inch stone drainage layer with geotextile fabric, install new mulch and purchase new playground equipment.
The mayor said the city has applied for an additional grant to cover the remainder of the project cost and that the rebudgeted $45,000 would be added to the grant funds if the application is successful. “We have unused funds from fiscal year 20 23 in the amount of $45,000, and we would like to allocate that to support public facilities and recreational improvements, in particular, the Northeast Playground,” Alcopello said.
Council members asked about the project timing; the mayor replied that the $45,000 alone was not sufficient to complete the work, that the city is waiting to hear about a grant, and that the rebudgeting was necessary to combine funds should the grant be awarded. The council moved, seconded and adopted the resolution by voice and roll call, with the mayor announcing five in favor and none against.
