County says $4.5 million set aside for 2 Mile Road drainage; design work underway

Monica Malone told the Mobile County Commission on July 28 that water is backing up into her elderly mother’s house on 2 Mile Road in Grand Bay and asked for a timeline for repairs.

County officials responding at the meeting said the county has dedicated about $4.5 million from the PAYGO program for a drainage and paving project on 2 Mile Road in the area Malone described. Commissioners and county engineers said a drainage design is currently underway and that the county did not want to pave the road until the drainage design is complete, because paving without designed drainage could worsen runoff onto adjacent properties.

Kim, the county engineer, confirmed the design is in progress and staff will provide frequent updates; staff said a community meeting will be scheduled as design advances so residents can provide input.
