A Camden County road department staff member said in a county campaign video that local government employees handle daily tasks from maintaining roads to managing budgets, and described a citizen bringing flowers and a card to thank road crew staff after a work order.
“You may not see them, but you experience their work every single day from maintaining roads, waste, buildings, budgets, and everything in between,” the staff member said.
The video is part of the county’s new campaign, Real People, Real Impact, which the staff member referenced as it airs. The staff member described a favorite memory: a resident brought flowers and a card to thank workers after the county completed a requested road repair. “Most people call in with a complaint, but it was really awesome to have the whole process of doing a work order and seeing that they were pleased with the work,” the staff member said.
The staff member said the job has taught “Patience. Empathy and patience,” and emphasized the front-line role of intake staff who receive calls and requests from residents. “So my thing is because I’m the first person that they see … when they call into the department, I wanna make sure that I am giving them the best customer service on, representing myself in the county in a positive way,” the staff member said.
The remarks focused on service and constituent contact rather than on specific policies, budgets or projects. The video excerpt presented personal experience and customer-service goals rather than formal county directives or votes.
The county campaign and the staff member’s comments provide a window into how one department handles incoming service requests and the county’s effort to spotlight behind-the-scenes employees.
