Mission awards major contracts for Bridal and Taylor road improvements

Mission — The Mission City Council on July 28 authorized construction contracts and professional-service negotiations for two major street projects, approving a $6.21 million award for Bridal Road reconstruction and an $18.5 million award for Taylor Road Phase 2.
The council unanimously awarded the Bridal Road Reconstruction and Drainage Improvements contract to Venser Contractors LLC for $6,205,710, the lowest responsive bidder who met specifications. Council also approved the low bid for Taylor Road Phase 2 to Gonzales Engineering and Management LLC, for a total awarded amount of $18,503,428.71, which includes roadway work, utility relocations and railroad force-account items.
Why it matters: Those two projects are among the city’s larger capital‑improvement investments this year and include road reconstruction, drainage improvements and utility coordination with neighboring utilities and railroads — work that city staff said will improve traffic flow and infrastructure resilience.
Council also authorized staff to negotiate professional services with B2Z Engineering for inspection, materials testing and construction management for Taylor Road Phase 2 and to execute a contract under a recommended scenario. Council approved that negotiation authorization unanimously.
“Staff recommends awarding the bid to Venser Contractors LLC, who was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder,” a public‑works presenter said when introducing the Bridal Road item. For Taylor Road Phase 2, staff said five bids were received and that TxDOT reviewed the bid packages and analysis prior to award.
The council approved a change order for Taylor Road Phase 1 (no change to the contract award total) to reconcile unused material on hand valued at $35,071.84; staff said the adjustment will zero out material‑on‑hand accounting and not increase the original contract price.
The city manager and public-works staff said construction will proceed following required contract execution, and staff will oversee inspections and coordinate with affected utilities and railroad contractors during construction.
