The recommended installation and purchase prices are $439,400 for the City Hall unit (diesel, 750 kW) and $176,925 for the Browns Mill Recreation Center unit (natural gas), for a combined cost of $616,325. Staff said the City Hall unit is a large industrial generator (Generac, U.S.‑manufactured) and explained that sourcing a comparably sized natural‑gas model for City Hall would have substantially increased cost, which is why a diesel model was recommended for that location.
Staff and vendors told council the Browns Mill unit will enable the facility to function as an emergency operations site when power is out. Council members asked about equipment security, monitoring and insurance; staff said the generators would be secured in enclosures, added to the city’s fixed‑asset records and covered by insurance. Funding was listed from fund balance and specific GL accounts.
Council members expressed interest in ensuring rapid installation and asked staff to provide details about monitoring, location, insurance and fixed‑asset tracking. The mayor and council voted to award the purchase order and proceed with contracting and installation.
