Council approves IGA with Colorado for universal preschool program

The City Council on July 28 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to sign an intergovernmental agreement with the State of Colorado for the Colorado Universal Preschool program.
Recreation Manager Justin Perdue summarized the item, noting the state now requires a formal IGA with local partners as the universal preschool program expands. Perdue said city staff will partner with the children's programs coordinator, Kira Hockaday, to finalize and execute the agreement specific to the city.
Council member Kondo asked whether state budget pressures might risk a future funding pullback; Perdue responded that the state had not indicated plans to unfund the program and that the program remains a statewide priority.
The council opened the vote and CR70 passed unanimously. Perdue said staff will proceed with the IGA execution and continue operating the city’s preschool programming in partnership with the state under the terms of the agreement.
