Monroe County commissioners approved a package of contracts July 24 to convert Suite 109 at the Showers Building from office space into an employee health clinic. The actions included a $2,546.47 change order to Building Associates Inc. to install built-in countertop workstations in the planned nurses' station, a $5,937.50 agreement with Matrix Integration to install 17 network data drops and patch the panel, and a not-to-exceed $2,750 contract extension with Spring Point Architects for continued professional services. Commissioners also approved a $21,600 professional services agreement with Specialty Engineering Group LLC to design hardscape and drainage work after stormwater inundated the main entrance. "The original plan called for loose furniture and we want to do something built in," said Richard Kreider of Monroe County Building and Fleet when describing the countertop work. Kreider explained the data drops and architectural extension are part of the renovation from office space to an employee health clinic in Suite 109. Specialty Engineering Group's work will focus on preventing stormwater from entering the main east entrance; Kreider said the drain on the north end of the building overwhelmed the entrance during recent storms. Each item passed by a 2-0 voice vote. The Spring Point extension reflects the shift to a formal bid process for construction quotes; Kreider said the additional architectural services are to assist during procurement and construction oversight. Commissioners discussed that the physical construction that follows engineering design will be part of a broader rebuild of the parking-lot area and noted multiple underground utilities complicate that work. No detailed construction schedule or total build cost beyond the specific agreements was provided at the meeting; commissioners directed staff to continue coordination among departments as design and procurement proceed.
