Crown Point, Ind. — The Crown Point Planning Commission on July 28 approved site development for an 18,000‑square‑foot athletic gym proposed at 1155 Trail Line Road.
Planning staff said the petitioner previously obtained a special-use approval to operate an athletic/fitness facility in the I‑1 industrial district and variances for rear and side yard setbacks and shared access and parking. Staff told the commission engineering, fire, public works and utilities reviewed the plans and recommended approval.
Petition representatives emphasized architectural treatments and shared access with the adjacent lot to provide space for drop-off and to limit curb cuts. Commissioners asked about parking counts and were told the two adjacent lots will share parking and cross-access; staff said the combined parking supply meets anticipated demand for the intended drop-off‑focused use.
A motion to approve the petition, with standard engineering conditions and recordation of reciprocal access as appropriate, carried unanimously.
