Fairhope councilors agreed to authorize city staff to assist the Eastern Shore Art Center with installation of donated bike racks after a presentation from outreach director Lindsay Lawrence and representatives of local cycling groups. Lawrence said the Bike and Pedestrian Committee and Fairhope cycling groups had donated six decorative arch-style bike racks, two of which include plaques naming the Eastern Shore Art Center and the local cycling groups. The group asked the city to provide labor and concrete work for installation and proposed three racks at the front entrance and three at an academy entrance, which would accommodate about 12 bicycles including larger e-bikes. Council members indicated support for a resolution authorizing the mayor to direct staff to work with the bike committee and the art center for installation. One councilmember asked staff to put the resolution on the next agenda; another noted the locations were visible and would encourage use. There was no cost to the city for the racks themselves; the request sought municipal labor and materials to set the racks in concrete in locations already scouted by volunteers. The council did not take a formal vote at the work session but instructed staff to prepare the resolution for the council agenda.
