Resident asks Lansing to post a single planning-and-zoning contact and board member information

Paul Cromer, a Lansing resident, told the council he could not find a single contact for the Planning and Zoning Commission on the city website and asked the city to provide a single public-facing email address for the seven-member volunteer commission.
Cromer said the planning and zoning contact page currently lists one phone number and six separate email addresses tied to a range of staff roles—community development director, public information director, code enforcement officer, building inspector, administrative assistant and events planner—and that a consolidated commission email would make it clearer for residents seeking to contact the commission.
He also said he could not find information about members of the Board of Zoning Appeals and asked that the board membership be added to the website so residents would know who would hear appeals if needed. Cromer asked city staff to point him to any existing information after the meeting if it is already available.
Councilmembers and staff acknowledged the concern: staff and council noted the seven-member commission are volunteers but perform critical work, and staff said agendas and packet materials are posted on the city web page. Staff agreed to explore ways to make contact information and board membership information clearer and more accessible online.
