On July 7 the El Dorado City Commission approved amendments to Chapter 9 (consumption on public property) and Chapter 4 of the municipal code to create a Gold Fest common consumption area for the event.
Staff explained the change establishes local authorization that allows organizers to submit the required state application; the city’s approval of the code amendments does not on its own permit public consumption. Staff said organizers must still submit a specific application to the state for event approval.
Commission discussion clarified that the local amendment allows the city to proceed with the state application when the Gold Fest organizers are ready, but additional specific approvals and a state-level process remain necessary. The commission approved the amendment after a motion and second.
