The El Dorado City Commission authorized the city manager on July 7 to enter a professional services agreement with JEO Consulting Group Inc. to develop a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan.
Staff said the city was awarded $160,000 from the Federal Highway Administration and $30,000 from the Kansas Department of Transportation, with a required city match of $10,000. City staff interviewed three firms and recommended JEO; staff requested authority to sign a contract not to exceed $200,000, consistent with the combined grant and match funding.
Staff explained that creating a safety action plan will make the city eligible for future federal implementation project funds for infrastructure, signage and other safety improvements across modes. A staff selection team recommended JEO following interviews with three firms; staff then presented the proposed contract scope and cost for commission approval.
The commission approved the contract authorization after a motion and second; staff will proceed with the planning process and public engagement required for an SS4A Safety Action Plan.
