City names Central Park diamond Fowler Field to honor coach Kenneth "Kenny" Fowler

The El Dorado City Commission on May 19 approved a resolution renaming the North Field at Central Park to Fowler Field, honoring Kenneth Wayne "Kenny" Fowler for decades of service to youth sports, coaching and community recreation.
Brad Long, representing the Fowler family and the El Dorado baseball community, told the commission Fowler was a lifelong El Dorado resident, an El Dorado High School graduate (class of 1960), a long-time recreation employee and youth coach, and an inductee of the El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. Long said Fowler worked in the city's recreation department, maintained fields, served as pool manager and later coached and taught in local schools.
The resolution cites Fowler's lifelong commitment to mentoring student athletes and directed the city to appropriate signage and coordinate a public dedication ceremony. The commission voted aye on the resolution; staff will arrange signage and a dedication event to celebrate Fowler's legacy.
