Iowa City HCDC commissioner to resign after move; council to appoint new members as commission size changes

Commissioner George told the Housing & Community Development Commission he has accepted a job in Chicago and will resign when his permanent Iowa City residence expires Aug. 1.
“I've been offered a career opportunity in the city of Chicago, and, unfortunately, my permanent residence in Iowa City will be expiring August 1. So I will be forced to resign from the committee as well,” Commissioner George said. Commissioners and staff thanked him for his service and said they hope to stay in contact.
Brianna, city staff, told the commission the City Council recently passed a change reducing the commission from nine members to seven and that the new bylaws set the quorum at four. She said the council is scheduled to appoint new commissioners at its next meeting and that some commissioner terms end this month; one commissioner (Mary Anne) has reapplied while another (Horacio) did not reapply.
Commissioners used the staff-and-commission updates item to thank outgoing members and discuss appointment timing; no formal vote on membership was taken by HCDC (appointments are a City Council action).
