Vermillion County will host an IDEM-sponsored electronics-collection event on Aug. 9, and the board confirmed dates and hours for the county fall cleanup in September.
Officials said IBM/IDEM contracted ERI, a private electronics-recycling firm, to run a free electronics-collection event for the county; the event is currently scheduled for Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at South Vermillion High School, though staff said they are attempting to move the site to a more central location such as the county parking lot at 7700 to improve accessibility. The event will accept electronic items that plug in (anything with a cord) except large appliances; the vendor will provide staff, trailers, forklifts and collection containers. County staff will assist with marketing and will be listed as a partner on flyers.
Separately, the board confirmed the fall all-county cleanup dates: the event will run Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the meeting noted the dates were chosen to avoid conflicts with hunting season and local sporting events. Officials said they will reuse the same waste providers from prior events and will continue sponsor outreach and social-media promotion.
No board action was required on the IDEM e-waste event; staff will continue coordinating logistics and marketing with the IDEM contractor and will pursue opportunities to promote the event at the county fair.
