Board approves $30,000 general appropriation for 2026 solid waste activities

The Vermillion County Solid Waste Board voted to approve a $30,000 general-appropriation budget allocation for 2026 to fund county cleanup events, tire recycling outreach and related operations.
Eric, the county solid waste director, recommended keeping the appropriation at the current $30,000 level; he told the board the amount has been adequate to host two county cleanup events and related advertising. A board member moved to approve the $30,000 allocation and the motion passed.
The board also discussed a smaller separate solid-waste fund (referred to in the meeting as fund 8210) that holds about $5,000 and has been used historically for stipends, advertising and a drop-off program. Officials said they will investigate the purpose and historical use of that fund with the auditor's office and the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) before proposing structural changes or transfers.
No other budget changes were made; staff will continue to coordinate with the auditor's office on any questions about fund 8210 and will report back to the board.
