Vermillion County commissioners appointed new members to the Redevelopment Commission and the Vermillion RISE Board after a contested vote.
Commissioner Misty Hess moved to appoint Doug Meadows, Amanda Murphy and R.J. Donovan to the Redevelopment Commission and to appoint J.P. Ream, Joe Ellis, Jeff Michalek, Willie Wires and Eddie Thompson to the Vermillion RISE Board. The motion was seconded and, after brief discussion, passed 2‑1.
Commissioner Bill Peebles spoke in opposition during the discussion, urging the board to avoid removing volunteers mid‑term. Peebles said volunteers appointed by the commissioners across county boards rely on predictable term schedules, and replacing members between regular appointment cycles could jeopardize volunteer participation.
Commission President R.J. Donovan said some new members and new vision were needed for the boards, and the motion passed on a 2‑1 vote. Commissioners did not take additional action during the meeting to rescind prior appointments; the new members will be added to the boards as the county processes appointments and notifications.
