The Euclid City Council on June 2 approved Resolution 062-25 authorizing the director of planning and development, or a designee, to apply for and accept a fiscal year 2025 Healthy Urban Tree Canopy grant up to $100,000 from the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District.
Administration staff described the funding as a match-free opportunity to address priorities identified in the city’s tree inventory, which surveyed more than 9,000 street-tree sites between curbs and sidewalks. "This grant will allow us to seek funding to help maintain our canopy through pruning and removal where necessary," a planning staff presenter said, noting the work would address structurally defective or dead trees and help implement inventory recommendations.
Councilman Hannan urged continuing to apply for such grants, saying residents call frequently with tree-related concerns. The resolution passed unanimously after a motion to close debate.
Staff did not specify the exact list of projects or a project schedule in the council discussion; those details will be developed if the grant application is successful.
