Commissioners approve timeline amendment for archives elevator; contractor Schindler to proceed without cost change

The Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners on July 8 approved Amendment No. 1 to the archives elevator contract with Schindler Elevator Corporation to extend the project timeline because of longer manufacturer lead times. Brie Roberts, director of physical assets, said the change affects only the schedule and does not increase project cost.
Roberts explained that the elevator manufacturer (PFlow) indicated that, after order placement, job-specific drawings require two to three weeks and manufacturing requires another eight to ten weeks, with additional time for shipping and installation by Schindler. “Given that information directly from the manufacturer, I think it makes sense to increase the timeline on this project,” Roberts said.
Schindler was the sole bidder on the original contract and notified the county that the originally stated completion date was not feasible due to current supply-chain conditions. Commissioners voted to approve the timeline amendment; the approv al preserves the previously awarded price and schedules manufacture and installation under the revised timeline.
No new funding or change to contract price was authorized; staff indicated Schindler is willing to work with the county under the amended timeline.
