Juvenile Center renews $10,000 virtual-reality job readiness service

The Saint Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center received board approval July 1 to renew a service order with Transfer Inc. for virtual-reality job readiness and life-skills simulations at a cost of $10,000.
Jordan Morris, assistant chief probation officer, said the equipment and modules allow youth on probation and in the detention center to complete interactive modules that teach job-readiness and life skills. Morris described testing the simulator and said the system can provide career discovery tools, assessments and certificates the youth can present to potential employers.
Morris told commissioners the $10,000 amount is in the JJC budget. Commissioners approved the renewal by motion and second.
