Commissioners ratify county property and casualty renewals bound ahead of July 1 deadline

Saint Joseph County commissioners ratified the county’s 2025–26 property and casualty insurance renewals, including property, liability, workers’ compensation, crime and cyber policies, at their July 1 meeting.
Brie Roberts, director of physical assets, said the policies had to be bound before the July 1 renewal date, so staff executed and now sought formal ratification. Roberts told the board the policies were bound late the prior week and that brokerage-fee negotiations with Gallagher — whether to continue commission-based fees or move to a flat fee — remain in progress.
Commissioner comments noted the county expects some savings from renegotiating brokerage fees but said the expected savings on this package are smaller than the recently announced health-insurance savings. Commissioners approved the ratification by voice vote.
Roberts did not present a detailed premium breakdown at the public meeting; she described the ratification as formalizing the binding action taken to keep coverage continuous.
