The Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners on July 8 adopted Resolution R-13-C-2025 honoring Goodwill Industries of Michiana’s Veterans Resource Network and proclaiming July 12, 2025, as Goodwill Industries of Michiana Veteran Resource Network Stand Down Day in Saint Joseph County.
The resolution recognizes the work of the Goodwill Veterans Resource Network in connecting veterans with services for housing, health care, employment and legal aid. The document notes that the stand down event scheduled for July 12 at the Century Center in South Bend draws service providers and volunteers and is modeled on the military tradition of a stand down to rest and recover.
The board’s action was introduced during the meeting and the commissioners approved the resolution by voice vote. The chair noted appreciation for Goodwill and referenced Reverend Kenneth Lee as director of the county Stand Down effort.
During public comment, a resident asked that Jill Powers, who represents area military stand downs, be entered into the public record in relation to the recognition. No board action beyond the proclamation was taken.
The resolution encourages residents to support efforts that provide care and resources to veterans and acknowledges collaboration across multiple counties in the region.
