Commissioners appoint Connor McCarthy to property tax assessment board of appeals

The Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners on June 24 appointed Connor McCarthy to the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals (PTABOA) as a replacement for Steve Weldy, following a presentation by County Assessor Michael Caslon.
Caslon described Weldy’s service and presented McCarthy’s qualifications: a finance degree from Purdue University, experience in the family insurance business since 2017, a Certified Insurance Counselor designation, prior work supporting government contracts and outreach in Washington, D.C., and experience valuing replacement costs for residential and commercial properties. Caslon said McCarthy was selected because he adds an insurance perspective to a board that typically includes brokers and appraisers.
Commissioners moved and approved the appointment by voice vote recorded as: Commissioner Morton — Aye; Commissioner Hazen — Aye; Commissioner Maxwell — Aye. Caslon thanked the outgoing member Steve Weldy for his service and welcomed McCarthy.
