Council committee approves $39,250 to replace county survey equipment used by engineering and surveyor staff

Why it matters: County engineers and survey staff said the existing equipment is no longer supported and that replacing the rover, data collector and software will improve efficiency for locating section corners, right-of-way lines and for field data collection used in design work.
Skye Matters presented the request on behalf of County Surveyor Derek Dieter and said the equipment will be used across departments. A committee member asked whether existing pole rods would be reused; staff answered they would.
What the committee did: The committee voted to send bill 43-25-g favorably to the full council. Staff said the purchase will be used by both the surveyor’s office and IPG staff and will help one-person crews perform tasks that historically required two people.
Next steps: The request moves to the full council for final appropriation.
