Board approves St. Joseph County satellite garage connection subject to district engineering standards

The St. Joseph County Sewer District board voted to approve connection of a county-built satellite garage at the end of Alexander Drive, accepting recommendations from the district engineer (JPR) and instructing the county to meet all district engineering standards.
District staff said St. Joseph County purchased the formerly deferred property and their engineer worked with JPR to identify the infrastructure needed for connection. The board asked that the grinder station be sited where district operators would have direct access — outside the fenced garage area — or that the county grant an easement to allow district access. The board approved the connection after a motion and second; members noted the motion would be recorded in the minutes as conditioned on meeting engineering standards.
Staff also told the board the garage will include wash bays and restrooms. Board members said wash-bay discharge should be routed through an oil-water or grit separator rather than flowed into the grinder station. The district noted it will invoice the county for the district engineer’s time spent determining the connection criteria and for other review work.
The motion carried without opposition. The approval is conditional: the county must meet the district’s engineering specifications, arrange the equipment location to permit operator access or grant an easement, and install appropriate pre-treatment for wash-bay water.
