The City Council on May 20 approved a second‑reading ordinance to increase appropriations in the Information Services Fund to support a multi‑year technology transition and security updates.
City staff outlined the largest line item: migrating to Office 365 subscription licensing for roughly 450 users, at an estimated $120,000 annually. Other items include $27,000 for server licensing with software assurance, roughly $10,000 for consulting and migration assistance, $21,000 for an endpoint‑management solution, and $15,000 for an enterprise password‑management system. Staff said several of the city’s servers and email platforms are near end‑of‑life and the work is time‑sensitive.
Council members voiced support for the upgrade and framed it as an investment in cybersecurity. Staff said the funding request was unchanged from the first reading and that no public commenters spoke for or against the item at the meeting. The ordinance passed second reading, recorded unanimously.
Staff noted the appropriation covers both operating ($178,000) and capital ($15,000) components and that the city needs to update software and systems prior to vendor end‑of‑life dates later in the year.
