Columbus City Council elects Frank Miller president, Grace Kessler vice president

The Columbus City Council on Jan. 7 elected Council Member Frank Miller as council president and Council Member Grace Kessler as vice president for 2025, voting 8-1 to approve the proposed leadership slate.
The motion to present the slate was introduced during the council’s new-business session and carried after roll-call voice votes. Jay Boyce voted no; the remaining nine members either voted aye or were recorded as voting in favor, yielding an 8-1 outcome announced by the chair.
Council Member Frank Miller, speaking after the vote, thanked colleagues and signaled a continuity theme for the coming year. "Thank you for allowing me to come back again as your council president," Miller said. He added that he and Kessler have discussed several items they may pursue in 2025 and that they plan to try different approaches to internal communication.
Council Member Grace Kessler said she appreciated the council’s support and that she was "looking forward to it" and to continuing communication and the work of the council in the new year.
The vote followed a procedural presentation of the slate and brief roll-call voting by members. The council did not amend the slate before the vote. The election is a procedural organization action for the council’s internal leadership for calendar year 2025.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21 at 6 p.m., when the new leadership will preside.
