The Spartan Area School District board approved purchase and implementation of a districtwide RingCentral phone system, with a hardware cost of $21,000 paid from the facility referendum and an ongoing annual operating cost estimated at about $40,000 from the general fund. District presenters told the board the wiring is already in place and, if the board approved the purchase, the system could be implemented before the first day of school. "It is realistic that with action tonight, we could have this implemented prior to the first day of school," a presenter said. The board approved the item by roll call, with five votes in favor, zero opposed and two members absent. Staff said the $40,000 annual operating cost would replace an existing phone operating cost in the general fund rather than create a new full-year expense line.
