Chaffee County commissioners voted to remove an appointed member of the Chaffee Housing Authority (CHA) board and directed staff to reopen the appointment process for that seat.
Commissioner Dave said the board evaluates appointees against county expectations established at an earlier orientation for volunteer board members and that two of the three county appointees met those expectations. The third appointee, identified in the meeting as Salty Riggs, was described by commissioners as repeatedly focusing on operational details, seeking to direct the CHA executive director’s work, and on occasion leaving meetings. Commissioners said the role they appoints is governance and policy oversight, not direct management.
Commissioner PT moved to remove the appointee; the board voted in favor. Commissioners also asked staff to send a letter to the CHA recommending formation of an advocacy group that can represent lived-experience voices and report to a board member so that advocates have a channel while the board focuses on governance.
Next steps: staff will repost the opening through the standard appointment process and bring candidates forward for the board’s consideration.
