Garfield County commissioners approved a sole‑source contract with Valley Meals and More for up to $244,760 to provide congregate and home‑delivered meals for older adults in the eastern portion of the county.

Department staff and contract leads told the board they had worked over several months with procurement and county attorneys to structure the contract, planned a soft launch beginning July 1 with county staff supporting through August, and a full provider transition on Sept. 1. Sheila Strauss and program staff said transition meetings began in May and staff will monitor meal counts and quality after the change.

Commissioners noted the contract is within the approved budget and emphasized the county’s interest in maintaining and growing congregate meals and home delivery for seniors. Staff said Department of Human Services (DHS) oversight and monitoring were built into the contract scope.

The board approved the contract and allowed the chair to sign.
