Police chief: body‑camera analytics show mostly ‘highly professional’ interactions; storage and translation questions remain

The chief said Trulio's weekly reporting highlighted patterns in officer interactions. He presented three recent weekly tallies that managers reviewed: one week with 64 “highly professional interactions” from 108 hours of video, another with 78 from 103 hours, and a later set showing 34 “highly professional interactions” from 89 hours. The chief said the analytics have been valuable for management review and for identifying training opportunities when interactions fell short of department expectations.
He said the system transcribes each body‑worn-camera video and that transcription capability is available for Spanish audio, though he requested definitive verification that Spanish-to-English transcription met department needs. The chief also said storing the expanded video and transcription records is using considerable server space; the city now retains videos for a minimum of one year to ensure older complaints can be reviewed. He said the department uses specific incidents identified by Trulio for officer coaching and training.
